Yesterday was day 5 of half marathon training.  It was a nice easy 5 mile run.  I felt really good through most of it.  At mile 4.5 though, I was starting to get a little sluggish so I just cranked up the music and prayed to God to finish.  As soon as I was done, my head started spinning.  I had a Larabar before my run, so maybe I just need to eat a little more before I run?  I’ll figure it out I’m sure.  My post run fuel was a wonderful banana (enter Gwen Stefani song here 🙂 )

Todays Workout

When I went to the gym this morning, I knew I wanted to do something different.  I have been eyeballing a pyramid workout for quite a while so I decided today was the day.

Squats-2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,18,16,14,12,10,8,6,4,2

Pull Ups-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Push Ups-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Elbow Planks (in seconds)-5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,45,40,35,30,25,20,15,10,5 

I really enjoyed doing something different, but I found myself getting a little bored after a while.  Also, my back started really hurting near the end, so I took out some of the elbow planks and replaced them with side planks.

Since today is Sunday, that means I was a baking machine 🙂  I was originally going to make cookies, but we have two HUGE boxes already, so at the last-minute I decided to skip that and make Pineapple Upside Down Cake.  I’m not a huge cake fan, but Matt is.  Let me tell ya, this was to die for.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 can (14-16 oz.) crushed pineapple (juice reserved)

2 eggs

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

Directions

Melt butter in sauce pan.  Stir in brown sugar

Poor in bottom of 8*8 baking dish.  Spread 1 cup of pineapple over brown sugar mixture.

Bake at 275* while making cake batter

Beat eggs sugar and vanilla until nicely mixed.  Add flour, baking powder, and salt.  Mix together.  Stir in reserved pineapple juice.

Remove dish from over.  Bring temperature to 350*.  Pour cake batter over pineapple mixture.  Bake for 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.  Let cool and then flip upside down onto a plate!!

I *might* have taste tested a little bit from the corner.  Maybe.

This cake got the royal treatment.  It’s sitting on some of my wedding gift china….that has never been used until today.

After yesterday’s ridiculous heat, it’s actually not too bad today.  I got to the gym first thing this morning and completed 15 minutes on the stairmaster and 25 on the bike.  Note to self:  when on said stairmaster, pay attention to the machine, not the iPhone.  I almost killed myself when it switched to a higher level. 

While on the bike, I caught up on some very educational reading.

After that, it was work time.  I stopped at the gas station and got some essential fuel.

Ahhh….Diet Mountain Dew.  There really are no words.  I try not to drink pop through the week.  Come Friday though, all bets are off and I will practically bathe in the stuff.

Coffee with French Vanilla creamer.  That’s a morning staple.

Since it’s Friday, you know what that means.  Five facts about yours truly.

1.) I always read the last page of a book first.  I started doing it years ago and still do it. 

2.) My poor iPhone deserves a better owner.  Really.  I am knock down drag out IN LOVE with my phone, but I drop it all the time.  So sad.

3.) I hate the word “panty.”  It’s dirty.  Yuck

4.) I am insane about spelling.  Please learn how to spell.  Thank you

5.) Punctuation not so much though.  Do I really have to use another comma??

Question of the night:

What is one thing you hate doing at the gym?

I hate the stairmaster, but I know it’s giving me a killer workout, so I put on my big girl pants and tough it out!!

 

 

We’re breaking records here in the mitten.  It’s 99* with a heat index of 108*.  Um, thanks but no thanks.  We humans just like to complain huh?  Too hot….too cold…too much rain….too much sun….too much snow.  Since I can admit that I’m a complainer, I’m going to keep right on complaining about this disgusting heat.  Blah.

The butter was actually melted at the restaurant….and yes the air was on in there.

I had it in my head that I was going to do 5 miles on the treadmill AFTER work, but you better believe that didn’t happen.  I knew I should have went at 5:30 this morning, but my bed was too comfy and I was snuggled with my two fave men.  Whatever.  BUUUUTTTTT, since we not only have a heat warning but also an air quality alert, I decided that the world won’t stop spinning if I don’t run today. 

I’m not going to lie though, I was a little on edge when I made the decision.  I like to stick to my schedule and I don’t like when things get in the way of my workouts.  Even if mother nature is not being nice!!  Tomorrow’s a new day though, right?

Question of the night:

Are you a “go with the flow” type, or a “planner/scheduler?”

I am ridiculous when it comes to planning stuff out.  Every vacation has an itinerary and I don’t do well in “go with the flow” situations.  Gives me the heebeejeebees.

So I finally pressed the submit button and signed up for The Brooksie Way Half Marathon.  I started training a few days before I actually signed up.  My thoughts?  OMG why am I trying to kill myself??  I know I can do it though!!  In the words of Nike “Just Do It!!”

Half Training Day 4 (yesterday)

4 miles

It was nice and easy.  I did it a little slow so I don’t kill myself.  Since it’s hot as hades here, you better believe I did those 4 miles on the treadmill.  As much as I like running outside, I draw a line at 400* heat.

Nice and easy.  It actually was a really good run for me.   I was going to go a little more, but I’m trying to stick to the plan so I don’t hurt my knee.

I was in the mood to do some weights, but I had some stuff to do before work, so I didn’t want to be at the gym forever.

Warm Up-5 mins.

21’s-8 pound dumbbells-12 reps*2

Cable Crossover-10 pounds-12 reps*2 <——These OWN me when I’m working on my shoulders)

Dual Axis Row-45 pounds-12 reps*2

Plank- 1 Minute

On a side note, I am going to start blogging everyday or at least every other.  When I go three days without, I feel overwhelmed and I don’t want stuff to get sloppy.  I also will be doing some more work this weekend on zee blog.  Like the book reviews.  🙂  I slacked a little on that.

There is a very handsome Boxer who has a half birthday today, so I’m out!!  One big peanut butter bone coming right up!!

Do you celebrate your pets birthdays?-I am totally that pet owner who celebrates full birthdays, half birthdays, holidays, and his name gets signed on all cards 🙂

Now that we got through that, let’s talk about yesterday.  My friend’s sister graduated high school, so we went out there for her party.  It’s about an hour from us. 

Since I knew that I would most likely eat my face off, I wanted to get in a good workout.  As I was thinking about what to do at the gym, I drew a blank.  It wasn’t a running day, I didn’t really feel like doing weights, and I didn’t feel like doing just cardio either.  After doing some research, I decided to do a bodyweight circuit.

60 Jumping Jacks

20 Push Ups

30 Walking Lunges

10 Spiderman Climbs

20 Squats

20 Mountain Climbers

5 Burpees

50 High Knees

Everything completed two times

20 Minutes Stationary Bike

My plan was to do the circuit 4 times, but I had a dentist appointment prior to that so I hadn’t eaten anything and we all know how that goes.

After all that, it was time to get ready to PARTY!!

The cooking is always wonderful every time we go out that way, so I was super excited to EAT.  This is what Matt’s plate looked like

Pulled pork, meatballs, coleslaw, pasta, baked beans, and watermelon so nicely placed right smack on top of it all 🙂 

It was a great time with great friends!!

Today was day 3 of training for The Brooksie Way Half Marathon.  It was just a straight 3 mile run.  I felt really good through the whole run.  Before I knew it, it was over.  When I was done, I scoped out the gym to find my new best friend-the FOAM ROLLER.  That thing is AMAZING!!

Now it’s time to relax!!  I’m pooped!!

Question of the day:

What is your favorite BBQ food?

I like any and all!!

I didn’t go to the gym this morning 😦  I was really not feeling good this morning, so I decided to skip it.  I also have to rearrange my workout schedule to accommodate my half marathon training.  I’m a little stressed about that.  The plan is to weight lift two days a week and run three days a week.  I typically workout/run 6 days a week.  I’ll figure it out.  I’m sure.

So, I was thinking that on Fridays I would do something fun and do a “five facts” list. 

Here goes nothin’!!

1.)  I HATE unpainted toenails.  It’s gross and creeps me out to no end.

I’m not even asking you to get a pedicure.  Just take the three seconds to paint them.  Please.  For the record, those are not my toes.

2.) I like to do stuff in numbers.  When I chew, I count.  When I run/walk, I count my steps.  When I suck out of a straw, I count.  I prefer to do things in multiples of 4’s.  Four chews, eight steps, etc….You get the point.

3.) I always put my right shoe on first.  No rhyme or reason, I just do.

4.) I check People.com before I do anything on the computer.  I’m slightly obsessed with celeb gossip.  It’s true.

5.) When I flip a page of a book while I’m reading, I always flip it back, then flip it again to make sure I haven’t skipped a page.  Every.  Single.  Time!!

Question of the night:

What is something fun/interesting about yourself?

Yesterday, I officially started training for a half marathon.  The one I plan on doing is on October 2nd.  It’s called The Brooksie Way.  I’m a little nervous about it.  I’ve heard its pretty hilly at parts, but I know I can do it!!

I’m loosely using two different plans, so I won’t post the specific site.  I don’t want to confuse myself.  🙂  That’s easy to do….trust me. 

Recap of Half Training Day 1:

I wasn’t able to get on here yesterday, but this is what I did:  2 miles of speedwork.  I did it on a treadmill since it was Wednesday.  I always run on the ole tready on Wednesdays.  It was quick and easy.  Just the way I like it!!

Back To Today

Usually my mornings start with coffee and usually fruit (although coffee keeps me VERY full for quite a while).  However, it was this kind of day today

I’m not going to lie, I’ve drunk WAY TOO MUCH POP THIS WEEK.  After Saturday, I must limit my pop intake.

For dinner, my inner child came out

I never tell myself I can’t have something because that will only make me want it even more.  So, when I do want something that isn’t exactly “healthy” for me, I limit it.  A Happy Meal is just perfect for me.  Random fact:  I ordered a regular Coke with this because I didn’t want the teller to think I was giving a child Diet Coke.  😉

Half Training Day 2

I don’t usually run two days in a row.  I don’t want to injure myself.  However, up here in The Mitten, it’s beautiful.  I was going to do weights at the gym, but it was way too nice.  So I switched it up a little and ran outside today.  The weights will still be at the gym tomorrow morning; I’m sure of it.

A 3 mile run was what I did today.  Flat out, it was a hard run.  My breathing was all over the place.  I think I know a few of the reasons why: 1.)  I had to pee 2.)I had just eaten dinner.  Even though I didn’t get a cramp, I felt like I had 30 pounds of rocks in my stomach 3.)I was holding a water bottle.  I hate holding stuff when I run, but I don’t have a fuel belt yet and I DIE of thirst when I run.  I almost threw it in the road, but I didn’t want to litter.  Ya know??
